breastfeeding

It is important to be particularly sensitive to the issues new moms face in the first weeks after birth and encourage any mom reading this in need of breastfeeding help to seek it out sooner than later. The longer you and your baby go with a poor latch, discomfort, slow weight gain, low milk supply, or other challenge, the more difficult and time-consuming it can be to ameloriate your concern. Breastfeeding can become the intimate and enjoyable experience you’ve heard it can be! Most women just need a little help to get started.

As an IBCLC, I manage a private lactation consultant practice that provides lactation consultations in your home, in the hospital, or via phone or Skype. Our team of four consultants are available 24 hours per day. Often newborn breastfeeding problems start late at night when it can be difficult to reach your pediatrician or other help. Currently, our practice is the only lactation service in the Los Angeles area that offers late night/middle of the night consultations. Call 323-595-4006 after business hours to reach an on-call consultant immediately.

We also offer delivery of the most needed breastfeeding supplies such as rental pumps and scales, creams and shields. This is especially helpful after hours when stores that sell these supplies are closed.

Private breastfeeding classes are available as part of a birth doula package or separately. We also teach group classes including Going Back to Work & Breastfeeding, First Foods, and Breastfeeding for Doulas.

Finally, my own breastfeeding story started with a challenge that took quite a bit of time to overcome. I did not work with a lactation consultant. In fact, I didn’t even know they existed at the time. Part of why I do what I do is to empower women to mother with this ancient and timeless art, get past their challenges with dignity and strength, and enjoy the most precious relationship they will ever have in their lifetimes.
